Do you want to be a person who kisses heaven or clings to heaven? That was a question I heard a preacher ask and it got me really thinking. I spoke to my husband about this and he pointed out Mary Magdalene who clung to Jesus. The scriptures tell us that Jesus had healed her of evil spirits.

“And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,” Luke 8:2

She had to be a follower and supporter of His ministry because she was there at the cross.

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.” John 19:25

She showed how much she cared because she stayed with Jesus’ body.

“And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.” Mark 15:47

As soon as she could she honored Jesus’ body by helping lay Him to rest according to the custom of that day.

“And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.” Mark 16:1

She showed how much she loved Jesus because she visited His grave and was one of the first to see that His body was gone.

“In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.” Matthew 28:1-5

She had the honor of being the first person Jesus appeared to after His resurrection.

“ And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.” John 20: 14-18

You see she clung to Jesus, she was a disciple who served Jesus well. She was with Him to the end and in the end, she received a blessing for it. She received Jesus. This is a picture of how our relationship should be with Jesus. Don’t run away when the world puts the pressure on. This is the time to cling to Jesus with all you have.  Don’t be a Judas and just pay lip service to Jesus and not mean it in your heart. Jesus knows who you are, you cannot hide from Him.

“But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.” John 6:64

Judas followed Jesus and even held a position of authority in His ministry. He controlled the money for the ministry! But that just was not enough for Him. He really did not get who Jesus was and Judas truly did not follow Jesus in His heart.

“Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him. Matt. 26:14-16  “And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand. And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely. And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him. And they laid their hands on him, and took him.” Mark 14: 41-46

All Judas could do was just kiss Jesus. Give lip service but he never believed in Jesus. He ended up betraying Him. That is what happens to all of us who do not trust in our heart of hearts and follow Jesus with everything we have. We must love, give, serve, forgive, and live our whole lives outrageously out loud, out of the worlds bounds and in the spiritual realm of love, peace, and joy!  Ask yourself, are you a kisser or a clinger?

God bless.
