“For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” Malachi 3:6
Have you ever tried to change God’s will for your life? It does not work. He gives you free will to accept His will for you but if you reject His will for your life you are no longer under His protection and provision. In other words, you are on your own. You can give God all the excuses in the world why you are not obedient to Him but it will not change who God is, or what He is about. You just excused yourself from walking in what He has for you.
We have seen this with our children. When they disobey our rules, they have every excuse in the book. We have seen this in ourselves and others why we knowingly don’t do the right thing. I know I need to lose some weight but… I know I need to get busy cleaning my house but…. I know God is calling me to teach a class but… We have some of the biggest buts in the world.
Those buts are really saying I don’t want what you have for me God, it is just not good enough. I don’t want to do what is right and good for me. I don’t want to be blessed and prosper. That is what those buts are saying. Excuses we have become an expert at excuses
The second half of that verse says a big word “therefore” meaning otherwise the sons of Jacob would be consumed, (destroyed) if God was a God that changed His words. I thank God, my excuses don’t change God otherwise I would be destroyed! God shows me mercy and grace. I may not get His blessings but He does not destroy me. I may destroy myself by my actions but my loving merciful God does not. When I come to my senses and ask for forgiveness and become obedient to Him, He always forgives and lovingly takes me back into his provision and protection. He never brings my past up again. Wow what a God we serve!
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1
